Saying Goodbye Is Never An Easy Thing to Do Especially In Two Weeks They're Going to Die

I told Laurie the story over the phone. I basically told her I valued every minute of our friendship. I also told her to visit me in Chicago.
I had enough time to hurry up and visit Children's one last time. I dropped my letter of resignation off at the front desk and visited Steve for the very last time.
"Hi Steve. What's happening buddy?" I said as I entered his room.
"Well Nurse Brittnae I am going to die. I weally enjayed you being my nurse. I'm dying today." He said. You could tell. The pep and happiness in his voice was gone.
"I enjoyed being your nurse Steve. I dropped by to say goodbye. I'm moving to Chicago, Steve." I decided to just let everything go and not hold it back.
"You behave in heaven now, you hear?" I said.
"Yes mayhum." Steve replied, taking a good while to reply. I looked at my watch. 1:29. My plane left at 2.
"Well I will see you Steve." I left the room with hot tears streaming down my face. I couldn't make it to the nurse's station to say goodbye to all the nurses. I just darted for my car.

The plane ride didn't help much either. Sidney tried to call me but I blocked his number. I was too hurt to talk to him. I couldn't believe that Steve was going to be gone. Seeing that boy everyday really put a smile on my face with how he handled his brain tumor. The attendant asked me if I wanted a pillow and blanket. I gave a very frail "yes please" and cried myself to sleep.

The next I remember I was in the Windy City. I had to touch up all my make-up before I met this Patrick kid who was my future husband. I can't believe my parents had set up an arranged marriage to a kid who is older than me by 5 years. I couldn't really complain though because Sidney was six. Then I started again.

Sidney.
